Every Wednesday is recycling day on my street. Each week we alternate putting out newspaper/cardboard and plastic/glass by the curb. Well with today being Wednesday, I thought it would be a good day to blog about recycling in the home decor industry. All the major manufacturers are now introducing products made of recycled or reclaimed materials. Environmentally friendly, responsible and unique, reclaimed wood furniture, as its name suggests, is repurposing leftover lumber or parts of castaway wooden objects. Weathered wood from old barns and buildings comes back to life as rustic furniture or accessories for your home. Here is a sampling of five products from five different manufacturers.
Arteriors Home 6573 – Everybody has a story. So too is the case of the wood in this recycled wood coffee table. Though we can only speculate about its past, we can speak with certainty about its future, which is as bright as the polished-nickel-finished wheels attached to it. A natural wood finish befits this nature-friendly product.
Uttermost 19575 – Turning the old into something new. Recycled, old wooden planks are used here in the creation of this wine holder along with antique metal details.
Cooper Classics 40083 – Add rustic charm to your home’s decor with the lovely Langley mirror. This beveled wall mirror features a beautiful rustic reclaimed wood frame that will complete any decor.
IMAX 74018-2 – The Moreton wood chests are very eco-friendly pieces that are made completely from reclaimed wood which makes each piece unique and individual.
Butler Specialty 1783025 – This industrial styled table is reminiscent of an ice cream churn from yesteryear, the crank handle adjusts the tabletop height for great convenience and flexibility. The base is crafted from solid iron, and it features a distressed recycled wood top.
Expertly crafted, each of these creations is a work of art and an excellent way of turning a worn out piece of wood into a custom showpiece for your home. The inconsistencies and imperfections found in the wood offer both a uniqueness as well as a sense of history.
